Quality, Healthy Dehumidifiers
One of the best investments you can make for your health and home is to purchase a quality dehumidifier.
Most people know that humidity is simply the moisture in the air. What a lot of people don’t know is that cold air holds less moisture than warm air. This is why your house is typically dry in the winter and moisture-filled in the summer. The relative humidity is expressed as a percentage of the current moisture level relative to the maximum moisture level for the current temperature. This means that if the temperature inside your house is 68 degrees Fahrenheit then 1 cubic meter of air can hold 18 grams of water. If the air contains 9 grams of water per cubic meter, then the relative humidity is 50%. (9/8=50%)
Our bodies release moisture in the air to cool down. When the humidity level is higher, it becomes more difficult for our bodies to release the moisture, and make it feel hotter than the actual temperature. Because of this fact, a 45 to 50% humidity level is the most desirable throughout the home. At this level, the temperature felt by the body is as it is, and your skin and lungs don’t feel dry or irritated.
Cooling systems typically only control the temperature inside the home and do not control the humidity. So even if your home is 75*, inside it would actually feel much hotter. Having a dehumidifier in the home stabilizes the humidity level, which causes the air to feel drastically cooler. In this way a dehumidifier can prevent the over-use of your cooling system which helps in energy savings and energy conservation. The dehumidifier would also keep the furniture from drying out and prevent mold from growing. It is also important to invest in quality humidifier filters which will improve your home air quality by removing the harmful allergens, mold, and dust from the air.
