Household Allergens

Many people tend to think all their allergies come from being outside. The truth is, home allergens are quite common.

Mold
The leading cause of household allergens is mold which is found in your home. Typically it’s located in your kitchen, bathroom or your basement. Mold forms when an area gets wet and stays wet. It is wise to invest in a quality dehumidifier to prevent the growth of mold in your home. Basements are known for mold, because they are wet and dark. You may want to purchase a portable dehumidifier for your basement. A portable dehumidifier can prevent the mold from spreading – however if humidity is a problem throughout the house, you may want to invest in a whole-house dehumidifier. Following these simple steps will immensely help those with allergies to breath better.

Dust Mites
Dust Mites are probably the second largest source of household allergens, and are a main reason people have problems with allergies. Dust mites greatly affect your indoor air quality and cause allergen-related health problems to arise. Dusting as often as you possibly can will help you maintain your home health. It is advisable to use curtains instead of blinds since you can wash curtains when needed. Also, allergen pillows and mattress covers are a wise purchase for anyone suffering with allergies. These items are available relatively inexpensively, and they will greatly help you breathe better at night and feel better in the morning.

Pollen
Pollen is something found outside, but if you open your windows then pollen can easily come indoors. Getting a good air cleaner / purifier for your home can cut down on this. Pollen is something that comes from plants and it is impossible to avoid it completely. Pollen can travel miles from its originated plant, right into the air you breath. Investing in a quality air purifier for your home is the best way to protect yourself from pollen in your home environment.
